Royal icing rocks!

A couple of weeks ago I went on a beginners royal icing course with Ceri Dz (www.ceridz.co.uk) over in Cardiff. I love royal icing and think it's making a come back after years of people thinking it old fashioned and out of date. The course was fantastic, Ceri was a generous and helpful tutor and we learnt heaps. I was so, so nervous, but actually, was quite pleased with my efforts! I plan to go and do the intermediate course after some more practise with what I have learnt.
I state in my FAQs that I am happy to provide a naked cake for people to decorate themselves or that I am happy to decorate a cake baked by someone else. Well, I had both options within a week! Firstly I supplied a 9" round fruit cake for a wedding, it had been maturing for about 6 weeks, so would have made a delicious cake. Secondly, I was presented with a (delicious looking!) 9" sponge to transform into a Christening cake.
This cake was my first go at a quilting effect and I think you'll agree that it turns a very simple cake into a really stunning cake. This was a 9" vanilla sponge filled with cherry jam and buttercream.
This striking cake was an 18th birthday cake. It was very pink, very fluffy, very sparkly! It made a real impact. The bottom 9" tier was chocolate and the top 7" tier was lemon. Probably my personal perfect flavour choice!
This cake was designed alongside the mum of twins, Aaron and Natalie. We met a few weeks ago and this is the design that evolved, incorporating Aaron's love of football and Natalie's love of hockey. The ball and hockey stick are cake pop mix and everything was hand painted/decorated. The cake is a 9" vanilla filled with chocolate buttercream.
Humty Dumty sat on a wall, Humty Dumpty...... got gobbled up and eaten, by all accounts!! Humpty himself is an Easter egg which I decorated and his wall is a yummy chocolate cake filled with chocolate buttercream. I've made all of Samuel's birthday cakes so far.
This is a photo cake, but with a difference. Rather than just stick an edible photo across the top of a cake, I wanted to put it in a photoframe. The photo is of Will's new car. He's keen to pass his test. Very keen, he had his theory test booked for the morning of his birthday - and he passed! 8" chocolate cake.
I'm pleased to say that I have a busy few weeks coming up. Actually, make that a busy few months! I'm fully booked until the latter part of March and even after that, availability is quite limited. I even took and order for July 2015 the other day!! If you would like to order a cake, it really is never too early.
